FDA to Order Juul E-Cigarettes Off U.S. Market

Image
The Food and Drug Administration is preparing to order Juul Labs Inc. to take its e-cigarettes off the U.S. market, according to people familiar with the matter. The FDA could announce its decision as early as Wednesday, the people said. The marketing denial order would follow a nearly two-year review of data presented by the vaping company, which sought authorization for its tobacco- and menthol-flavored products to stay on the U.S. market. An FDA spokesperson told CNN the agency could not provide any information at this time. Juul Labs did not immediately respond to CNN's request for comment. Altria shares tumbled 8% Wednesday and the stock has fallen 13% this year. The company invested $12.8 billion for a 35% stake in Juul in 2018. The deal quickly went south as concerns mounted about the health risks of vaping, and US regulators pushed for a crackdown on e-cigarettes. Juul was also criticized for selling vape pods with flavors such as mango, creme and cucumber that

Brad Pitt tries to remember his dreams. He keeps pen and paper on his bedside table and records everything he can recall when he wakes up in the morning. “I’ve found that to be really helpful,” he says. “I’m curious what’s going on in there when I’m not at the helm.” He tells me this one recent afternoon in the brightness of his living room, at his Craftsman home in the Hollywood Hills. For a long while, his sleep had been haunted by a particularly persistent and violent dream—the particulars of which he later describes for me in an email exchange. He writes: For a solid four or five years there, the most predominant dream I would experience would be getting jumped and stabbed. It would always be at night, in the dark, and I would be walking down a sidewalk in a park or along a boardwalk and as I’d pass under an Exorcist-like street lamp, someone would jump out of the abyss and stab me in the ribs. Or I’d notice I was being followed and then another flanked me and I realize

El Salvador has amassed an estimated 2,301 bitcoins since announcing it would recognize the world’s largest cryptocurrency as legal tender a year ago.  (Read More Here). El Salvador President Nayib Bukele has made it a habit to “buy the dip” in recent months, often taking to Twitter to brag about locking in lower prices. At the time of Bukele’s last Twitter update, the country’s bitcoin reserves totalled about $71.4 million.  But recent market conditions have pushed bitcoin’s price even lower, driving El Salvador’s holdings down to around $52 million.  The sell-off comes as El Salvador continues to delay the issue of its highly anticipated “volcano bonds,” which were originally slated to launch in March 2022. The country opted to postpone the planned $1 billion offering, which is supposed to fund El Salvador’s “Bitcoin City,” following turbulence in the markets, Finance Minister Alejandro Zelaya said.  The bonds are largely seen as one of the Central American nation’s last
